Roughly one in five Americans suffers from a mental illness in a given year.1  After years of dismantling stereotypes and fighting the stigma associated with mental illness, the mental health field has discovered effective ways to treat and, in some cases, cure many of these conditions, making mental illness among the most manageable of diseases.

Mental illnesses are medical conditions that disrupt a person's mood, feeling, thinking, ability to relate to others and daily functioning. Serious mental illnesses include major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder.

Recovery is possible. In many cases, the success rate is 70 percent and in almost all cases where treatment is sought, management of the illness is possible. Most mental illnesses cannot be cured entirely, but are successfully managed with proper medication and therapy so clients can live happy, productive and healthy lives.

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is the most commonly diagnosed illness among children, affecting 2 to 5 percent of kids.

Bipolar Disorder
Everyone goes through highs and lows in their lives, but when these mood shifts are drastic, frequent, and affect relationships and an individual's ability to function in everyday life, it could be bipolar disorder.

Depression
An estimated 15 million people will suffer from major depression this year, a condition that can take effect due to several factors, which can be psychological, biological, environmental and genetic.

Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is often misunderstood by the people who suffer from the illness and the public at large.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-traumatic stress disorder affects about 8 million people each year.

Stress
Life without stress would be boring. Life with too much stress, however, can result in changes to our mental, physical and emotional health and well-being. Stress, therefore, can be detrimental to health.

Since 1875...

AspenPointe has empowered clients, enriched lives and embraced purpose through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, substance abuse treatment, employment, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration and care management.

One of the largest nonprofits in Colorado Springs, AspenPointe traces its roots back to 1875 when we were called the Springs Relief Society. That organization, which delivered coal, lumber and clothing to the needy, was the genesis of what today is a comprehensive and integrated system of care that addresses the overall wellness of each client whether they need behavioral health services, counseling services or career services.

We have 12 organizations that serve more than 30,000 individuals and families each year through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration, telephonic wellness and care management.

We collaborate with clergy, educators, employers, other health and human service agencies, the legal/criminal justice system, other behavioral health providers, insurers, and many other organizations to leverage our collective resources in order to better our communities and the lives of its residents.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded largely by Medicaid, state and federal grants, local government contracts, and generous donations.
