It has been said that the most successful businesses in the world all have one thing in common – the desire to make a positive change in the world. Social enterprises give for-profits and nonprofits the aid needed to accomplish that success.

Social enterprises are for-profits and nonprofits working towards social change through the use of competitive business strategies. The key term to remember when you hear the phrase 'social enterprise' is MISSION. The main goal of a social enterprise is to be active in using available resources to help disadvantaged populations and society in general. These business models are created to help in the progression of an organization’s mission.

With nonprofits losing funding from their usual sources, those in the industry must figure out a way to ensure their mission is continued. This is where social enterprises come into play. With added revenue from social enterprises, organizations are able to generate more innovate approaches to servicing the community in a sustainable way.

The idea behind social enterprise is rapidly growing among many industries: A dozen international conferences each year tout the benefits of social enterprise; for-profit and nonprofit social enterprises are proliferating; academic institutions are offering courses and degree programs; social investors are knocking at the door; the subject appears everywhere in the news media; and a rising generation of young people are working to energize the field.1

Since 1875...

AspenPointe has empowered clients, enriched lives and embraced purpose through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, substance abuse treatment, employment, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration and care management.

One of the largest nonprofits in Colorado Springs, AspenPointe traces its roots back to 1875 when we were called the Springs Relief Society. That organization, which delivered coal, lumber and clothing to the needy, was the genesis of what today is a comprehensive and integrated system of care that addresses the overall wellness of each client whether they need behavioral health services, counseling services or career services.

We have 12 organizations that serve more than 30,000 individuals and families each year through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration, telephonic wellness and care management.

We collaborate with clergy, educators, employers, other health and human service agencies, the legal/criminal justice system, other behavioral health providers, insurers, and many other organizations to leverage our collective resources in order to better our communities and the lives of its residents.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded largely by Medicaid, state and federal grants, local government contracts, and generous donations.
