Culinary Training

Fresh Food = Fresh Start

Our Trainees Become Sought After Food Services Employees.

Our cafe is a full-time training facility teaching food services from dishwashers to cooks.   We  train personnel for restaurant and commercial food service positions and help place individuals in successful jobs.

The mission of our Food Services Training program is to instruct students who are committed to a career in culinary arts, and to help them achieve their potential through small class sizes and individualized instruction from a professional staff.  Students will acquire the foundational knowledge and skills of cooking and/or baking, sensory awareness and teamwork needed to work with competence and professionalism in a commercial kitchen or in a related culinary field.

The AspenPointe Cafe Advantage

  • Our commercial kitchen serves as classroom laboratory, creating an efficient and enjoyable atmosphere in which to work, learn and dine.
  • A talented staff that provides individual attention and instruction in a small setting.
  • Real life internship opportunities that allow students to reinforce the skills being taught in the classroom, while gaining experience in other areas ranging from catering to producing and serving food in large quantities for food related events around the city.
  • Career placement support to provide career guidance for all graduates.
Our training program is run by our Operations Manager/Chef Peter Aiello.  He has 35 years of hands-on management & culinary expertise in fine dining restaurants, full service hotels, country clubs, conference centers and corporate catering.  His instructors are also seasoned professionals with years of restaurant and catering experience that they impart to our students.

 Program Overview

AspenPointe offers a highly structured environment in which students learn and practice professional work skills and attitudes that will serve them for a lifetime. We balance compassion and support with expectations for professional behavior that meet the demands of the workplace.  We work with each student individually, enabling them to create a new life for themselves and their families.

There are three parts to our program:

Food Services Training is taught through hands-on, real-world experience in the cafe's kitchen. Students work and train alongside our own chefs learning job skills from dishwasher to cook.  We train competitive skills so our graduates can compete and excel in the food service industry. Job Placement means finding the right jobs for our students and continuing to work with them after they've graduated to ensure that they retain their jobs in all sectors of the food service industry.  Some of our sudents are placed in Academy School District 11 kitchens or in restaurants.

Life Skills Training teaches students how to make healthy food choices for themselves with alternatives to unhealthy fast food. Training focuses on food preparation for the home.

Since 1875...

AspenPointe has empowered clients, enriched lives and embraced purpose through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, substance abuse treatment, employment, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration and care management.

One of the largest nonprofits in Colorado Springs, AspenPointe traces its roots back to 1875 when we were called the Springs Relief Society. That organization, which delivered coal, lumber and clothing to the needy, was the genesis of what today is a comprehensive and integrated system of care that addresses the overall wellness of each client whether they need behavioral health services, counseling services or career services.

We have 12 organizations that serve more than 30,000 individuals and families each year through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration, telephonic wellness and care management.

We collaborate with clergy, educators, employers, other health and human service agencies, the legal/criminal justice system, other behavioral health providers, insurers, and many other organizations to leverage our collective resources in order to better our communities and the lives of its residents.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded largely by Medicaid, state and federal grants, local government contracts, and generous donations.
