Personal Success Stories
Success Story: Ronnie

Ronnie could not hold down a job.

At a very young age he was diagnosed with a learning disability and battled with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and a personality disorder. Tasks and behaviors that come natural to most were arduous for Ronnie. He was slow to learn new skills, lacked a sufficient short-term memory, struggled with adjusting to change, and lacked self-confidence.

But when Ronnie volunteered his time someone noticed his talents and referred him to Aspen Diversified Industries' vocational program in Denver. Aspen Diversified Industries (ADI) provides comprehensive career and development services for adults and adolescents who are disabled or disadvantaged.

Ronnie's case manager felt he would be a good match for the NISH program (formerly National Industries for the Severely Handicapped) and worked with its staff to get Ronnie into the program. Ronnie received a wide array of vocational services. Trained professionals conducted a situational assessment and provided Ronnie with work adjustment training, job seeking skills training, job placement services, and job coaching services.

After eight months with ADI-NISH, Ronnie found employment and moved in to his first apartment. "I am just too happy to have a job," Ronnie said. "It is my very first job and I love it here."

Ronnie and his case manager, Adriane, have worked together for quite some time. Adriane is very proud of Ronnie's achievements and said he has been "a true pleasure to work with."

Since 1875...

AspenPointe has empowered clients, enriched lives and embraced purpose through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, substance abuse treatment, employment, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration and care management.

One of the largest nonprofits in Colorado Springs, AspenPointe traces its roots back to 1875 when we were called the Springs Relief Society. That organization, which delivered coal, lumber and clothing to the needy, was the genesis of what today is a comprehensive and integrated system of care that addresses the overall wellness of each client whether they need behavioral health services, counseling services or career services.

We have 12 organizations that serve more than 30,000 individuals and families each year through behavioral health services, counseling services, career services, education, housing, jail diversion/reintegration, telephonic wellness and care management.

We collaborate with clergy, educators, employers, other health and human service agencies, the legal/criminal justice system, other behavioral health providers, insurers, and many other organizations to leverage our collective resources in order to better our communities and the lives of its residents.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded largely by Medicaid, state and federal grants, local government contracts, and generous donations.
