Kandice came to Aspen Diversified Industries (ADI) after a long, unsatisfying history of short-term job placements. Because of her learning disability and a major mental illness, Kandice lacked both confidence and relevant employment skills. She had never experienced feeling "connected" in any job.
"I had always been told I was retarded," Kandice said.
Immediately after entering ADI's vocational training program, Kandice's vocational counselor helped her identify employment goals and the type of training that would meet these goals. She subsequently completed ADI's cashier training program and, with the assistance of her vocational counselor, Kandice was able to complete an online job application and online test.
Kandice's vocational counselor attended her job interview and met with the hiring manager to explain ADI's training program and services. After being hired, Kandice received extensive job coaching from ADI that included computer training.
Today, Kandice's skills, newly discovered sense of confidence, and perseverance have helped her to excel at her job. The experience has transformed her life.
"ADI helped me to set goals," Kandice said. "That never happened before ... and the people where I work have given me support -- they really care about me. Now I have people rooting for me. I smile everyday -- I can't wait to come to work. If I can do it, anybody can."
