At 19, Bridget had a drug problem and was supporting her habit by stealing cars. As a result, she was arrested and convicted of a class three felony and second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft.
Bridget spent most of 2005 in the El Paso County Jail. After completing her jail time, Bridget was sentenced to six years of probation, along with $10,000 in restitution, court costs, and fines. She struggled to find a job for almost a year before she was referred to AspenPointe.
"The Right Track Program helped me obtain a job when I thought it was impossible," Bridget said. "Brian, my case manager, went way above and beyond to help me."
While enrolled in the program, Bridget had the opportunity to work on her GED and develop job skills. She learned how to interview for a job, create a resume, and write a cover letter. She was subsequently hired by a local employer with a prior connection to the program.
Today, Bridget's life looks very different. She has remained drug free for more than two years, shares custody of her 3-year-old son, and is now able to support herself. She plans on completing her GED and going to college to study psychology. Bridget's dream is to someday work with youth from situations like her own.
"I would tell others to take full advantage of this program," Bridget said. "The tools are there for you, it's all about what you make of it."
