
Around noon, June 23, 2012, a fire was reported in the El Paso County, Colorado, Waldo Canyon area, immediately west of the Colorado Springs metro area. Over the next five days, the fire rapidly spread west to Teller County and northeast to heavily populated areas of Colorado Springs. Persons evacuated were over 32,000; 18,247 acres were burned; 346 homes were burned; 2 people lost their lives; and over 1,500 firefighters fought the flames. All members of the community were greatly impacted.
The Colorado Spirit: Waldo Support Team is a group of community crisis counselors working in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency through AspenPointe to support the community by working toward restoring peace of mind by providing the community with resources, as well as emotional and behavioral support through: Individual Meetings, Group Discussions, Information, and Referrals.

As the community continues to rebuild and our lives take on a new normal, we hope you plan to take time for you. Several are listed on the back of this hanger. Some immediate ways you might consider caring for yourself and your community are:
- Be aware of and tend to your mental and physical well-being
- Become an active participant in your HOA or community association
- Take advantage of the services offered by the Colorado Spirit: Waldo Support Team, Colorado Springs Together, Long Term Recovery Group and/ or others
- Talk to friends and neighbors about how you are doing
- Volunteer to help rebuild your community
